About

Experimental Properties is a research agency based in the Architectural Association in London, UK. Our mission is to design, develop and produce new typologies, modes of ownership and management systems for properties to challenge exploitative state and corporate developments.

Experimental Properties supports housing as a human right and creates architectural and strategic proposals in order to find paths for a more sustainable and equitable future. We work globally to trial vulnerable cases, emergent proposals and transpose rich techniques from within academia that can be realised and developed on live sites around the world.

Experimental Properties believe that architecture can foster a positive change and have wide impact on societies. EP are actively conducting new research of existing collective and cooperative housing models, community-led and non-speculative models, alternative tenure models, commons-based & shared economy models, informal and customary tenure systems in order to develop more experimental and new emerging models. These property forms have something in common, they emphasise embedding values over extracting.

Our team is interdisciplinary and part of a global PEAK Urban network which includes architects, urbanists, anthropologists, geographers, scientists, lawyers and journalists.
